With the Quest 3 selling well this holiday season there are a lot more folks jumping into VR than ever before. As Meta transitions to the Quest 3, many games and apps are still only optimized for the Quest 2 so don’t yet take full advantage of the increased resolution, new Snapdragon XR2 Gen 2 chip or Mixed Reality capabilities of the newer generation Quest headset. That’s why we’ve rounded up every game/app updated and optimized for the Quest 3 so you can get right to the good stuff.
We’ll be keeping this list updated as best as possible. Updates are happening pretty regularly. Quest 3 Optimized Games & Apps with QuestGamesOptimizer (QGO)
Got a game or app you love that’s not optimized yet? Well, there’s an app for that too. Over on itch.io, Anagan79 has created a pretty amazing app to optimize games & apps for Quest. It works great on Quest 2 but really pops with Quest 3 thanks to the increased resolution, cpu upgrade and pancake lenses. The Quest Optimizer app is called QuestGamesOptimizer (QGO).
QGO doesn’t work on everything but it covers a lot of titles (570+ at the time of this writing) and is a great way to get your Quest 3 optimized without having to wait on an update.
I’ve used it on about 8 older games so far and the results are stunning. When I used it on MOSS 2 it was like a brand new game! There are some warnings and things you should know about and it’s not exactly plug and play so make sure you do your reading on the itch.io website before diving in (you’ve been disclaimed part two). Well worth the $10 (USD) if you ask me.
Wrapping up
Keep in mind, just because a game or app isn’t updated/optimized, that shouldn’t stop you from having a good time. The Quest 3 is fully backwards compatible with all Quest 1 & 2 games and apps and all games will automatically get a 30% resolution bump with the Quest 3. Just don’t expect all of them to get individually updated/optimized for the Quest 3. It might happen, it might not, it might just take a while. In the meantime, maybe give QuestGamesOptimizer a try?
